In May 2017, Plinth worked with Magnum Photos to design and launch a range of merchandise, celebrating the agency's 70th anniversary within and alongside a London pop-up gallery: The Magnum Home. A Georgian townhouse was transformed with an exhibition – ‘Just Kids’, curated by Ekow Eshun – and immersive interior interventions curated by emerging designer Yinka Ilori. The doors to The Magnum Home opened to wide critical acclaim, and the range of products we sold there has gone on to be featured in publications such as The Observer, The Guardian, Man Repeller and many more.
The Magnum Home Away From Home
From November 1st until December 31st, Plinth and Magnum Photos open the doors to their newest pop-up at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche in Paris. Le Bon Marché, launched in the 19th century, was the first department store to open in the capital; established at a time of swift societal change, its enterprising spirit has only grown with the centuries. We’re thrilled to be working with a brand known for both strident innovation and prestige, as well as to be collaborating with Magnum Photos for the second time during their 70th anniversary year.

Following the success of the partnership’s first iteration, Plinth and Magnum have continued working together to bring photos to life. Coasters and table mats wed functionality with design, while laptop cases and coin purses offer the public the opportunity to carry their favourite photography with them, wherever they go. At Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, the products will be displayed alongside contact sheet prints from Magnum’s extensive archives spanning their seven decades, and the stall will see a full programme of talks, book signings and other events from some of the agency’s most celebrated members (full details to follow). Plinth’s display is accompanied by offerings from Actes Sud, Magnum’s literary partner in France. In the midst of Bon Marché’s uniquely welcoming atmosphere and spacious, industrial-cum-boutique building, we’ve found our Magnum Home Away From Home.
Plinth is committed to producing culturally relevant merchandise for as wide an audience as possible. Our Magnum range is designed to be accessible - both in price and aesthetic - but crucially, to be useful, too. We believe that art and photography needn’t be viewed within an ivory tower; they can sit on your dresser, or in your kitchen cupboard. Culture is inherently participatory - it has to come from, and be available to, everyone.
