Lamees Ibrahim
Lamees Ibrahim, author of The Iraqi Cookbook, was born in Baghdad where she lived until moving to London in the 1970s to complete a PhD in Pathology at Kings College. As the conflict in her home country intensified and her young family expanded in the UK, Ibrahim maintained links to Iraq by cooking traditional dishes at home and for friends. Family favourites noted down for her children fast became a project much larger than anticipated; acquaintance after acquaintance asked for a copy, recipe piled upon recipe, and so The Iraqi Cookbook was born. One of Lamees' recipes (Zardah wa Haleeb) from her seminal volume features in a signed artist's booklet which accompanies Michael Rakowitz's edition, A House With A Date Palm Will Never Starve. Look out for an interview with Lamees in our online magazine soon.
