Lauren Rizzo Shaffer
Lauren is an American artist specialising in needlepoint. The traditionally female art of needlepoint with the majority-male activity of card collecting. Like the art market, trading cards have fetched exuberant prices at auction, running on the comparable logic of rarity, desirability and chaotic speculation. With one simple thread, Schafer unravels histories of gender and trade. Her work was recently shown at the 2023 Intersect Palm Springs Art Fair in the “Art But Make it Sports” booth.
