Mahtab Hussain

Mahtab Hussain is a British fine art portrait photographer of Kashmiri / Pakistani origin whose work explores the important relationship between identity, heritage and displacement. His bodies of work include ‘You Get Me?’, a series addressing masculinity, vulnerability and the gaze in working class British Asian young men and boys; ‘Going Back Home to Where I Came From’, a series made in Kashmir and Pakistan exploring ideas around homeland, loss, memory and the overview effect; and ‘Honest With You’ about femininity, sisterhood, resistance and political defiance of British Muslim women. His work has been published in four books, is held in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and New Art Gallery Walsall. He has been shown in solo exhibitions at mac and Ikon Gallery in Birmingham, New Art Exchange in Nottingham, Impressions Gallery in Bradford, New Art Gallery in Walsall and Autograph ABP in London.
