About The Artist

Wentworth is one of the most influential artists alive today in Britain. He rose to popularity in the 1970s as part of the ‘New British Sculpture movement’, defined by their collective reaction against Minimalist and Conceptual art. His career has spanned curating and teaching as well as making art, and he was Professor of Sculpture at The Royal College of Art London 2009-2011. Wentworth was awarded his CBE in 2011 for services to art.

‘Known Unknowns’ is a bowl made of white, glazed bone china and its simple form rhymes readily with London’s gentle topographies. ‘LONDON’, that six letter word, sits at the centre, a cipher which proposes the way that its inhabitants ingest, digest, and pass through the city as a whole, and through the boroughs named around the rim.
