About The Artist

In 1991, the Royal College of Art refused Turk a degree on the basis that his final show, ‘Cave’, consisted of a whitewashed studio space containing only a blue heritage plaque commemorating his presence ‘Gavin Turk worked here 1989-91'.  Since then Turk has received an Honorary Doctorate in Arts from The University of East London (2010), The Charles Wollaston Award (2007) and Jack Goldhill Sculpture Prize (2001), both from Royal Academy of Arts.

Considered one of the YBAs, Gavin Turk's work deals with ideas of authenticity and interrogates 'authorship', questioning an artist's status as such.
