Hira Butt's ‘Dhee Rani (Princess Daughter)’ (2018) sees a football bejewelled with carefully selected traditional Pakistani decorations used on bridal dresses. Butt has said that the sculpture reflects on domestic violence and contemporary slavery as a result of cultural transition. Satisfyingly – for a work concerned with Pakistani garment workers in an age of fast fashion – the sculpture was previously shown in Birmingham’s Selfridges, where it blended in with the commercial items.
